Last day of Senior Studio

Well, its been a fun ride...but man am I glad I'm done with college. Here are a few shots of my last day in senior studio.

I only have to go back to Detroit for a few more things:
  • Senior exit review
  • Set up my senior wall for the student show
  • Graduation
  • Opening night of the student show

Lady of the House of Love

This was a piece that I actually did a few months ago but just never got around to posting it. It was for one of my studio classes at CCS. We had to illustrate something for a children's book. This ended up not really being for children. It's an illustrator for Angela Carter's "Lady of the House of Love". It's kind of a dark spin off of Sleeping Beauty. Angela Carter is a great author - I would recommend checking out her work sometime!

Since it has been displayed at the Detroit Public Library it has sold 4 times!

It's funny how things work out like that since this was never a favorite piece of mine.

I hope you enjoy!

Framing

I've been busy busy busy! I just got all of my prints done for the student show that starts in a few weeks and I've also began to frame most of them....so here is a sneak peak of what I have. I'm super excited about my senior wall. The frames and printing ended up being kind of expensive...but I think it will be well worth it in the end!

Other than that, this is my last week of classes!! I only have Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday then I'm done with college forever! There are lots of little things to do and get ready for but I'm just happy for classes to be done with.
Question:

I was thinking of setting up an etsy account once I'm settled in France in July. How many people out there would be interested in buying prints of my work? :)

Miss Dior Cherie

Here is another perfume bottle illustration I did - inspired by my new favorite fragrance - Miss Dior Cherie.

I used the magnolias in the background since it's a part of the signature scent!

My newest piece

The days of my college career are slowly dwindling down...4 more days of class next week. Then I have my senior exit review and I have to set up for my senior wall. Graduation...then the opening night of the show...Then going to Chicago to get my Visa. It's going to be pretty busy these next few weeks! But, I can't wait to be done with school and move on with my life and career!

This is my most recent piece. (And also part of my new blog header!) I took reference photos of my friend, Molly again. I really just took my time on this one and wasn't worrying about any deadlines which made this piece a lot of fun to work on. I wanted to keep it a simple portrait. Overall, I'm really happy how it turned out. I think because I didn't rush or worry myself too much about this one - it turned out to be one of my best pieces this year. I hope you all enjoy it!

This is the photo that I took of my friend to use for this piece, btw!

Marie Antoinette

I've been playing around with the idea of new vs. old. My initial thought was to place iconic hairdo's of the past with something new and trendy. I'm going to try to make this into a series. So, for my first piece: here is Marie Antoinette rocking the Kanye West glasses!

Another Molly!

Here is another ink drawing that I recently did. It's a lot of fun to do these quick studies. Here is the reference I used for the image..My friend Molly Jacques! She's also an illustrator and my best girlfriend at CCS. You should check out some of her work here: Molly Jacques

As for other news: I only have this week and next week left for classes! These past 4 years really flew by fast. I'm going to miss some of my closest friends, but I can't wait to move on. I graduate in less than 4 weeks...lots of exciting things are about to happen!

Anyways, enjoy and thanks for all of your comments!

Perfume

The next step that I want to develop in my portfolio is product illustration. I'm currently working on some perfume bottles. This one is from Marc Jacobs - Lola. I love his perfume bottles and the design of them.

Portrait

Here is a portrait I did for a friend of the family. It's not going in my portfolio, but it was just nice to do something for somebody else for a change!

Finally...Finished!!

So, a little while ago I told you guys I was going to try and do my own magazine layout...from the illustrations to the design of the page and typography.

I chose 3 favorite bloggers/stylists of mine to participate and help me out with this.

Andy from style scrapbook

Gemma from fade to black
and

Denni from chicmuse
I asked them for permission to use their images to illustrate. After illustrating them I designed the layout of the spread. This was really a challenge. I give a lot of credit to graphic designers. I don't know what was more of a challenge...the illustrations or the typography! Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out, being my first time doing this. Here are some close up images of the 2 pages.

As for other exciting news: I was featured on Spraygraphic's blog: Sprayblog.
It's a blog/website about all different types of artists out there.
They did an interview and put up some images of my work. You can check it out HERE!!

Some Spontaneity

I was so bored of doing the same illustrations I've been doing for my portfolio. I've been so caught up in making a cohesive portfolio that I haven't had time to experiment and just have fun. Last night I did this drawing based off of a photo I took of my friend, Molly. I've been wanting to use my brush pen for the longest time now. I'm glad I did!

Old magazine images I scanned..

So, I've had quite the lack of posts lately. I'm SO tired of school which has caused me to slack on my blog a bit.

Here are some images I scanned a little while back from some old magazines from the 1950's. The women were beautiful! My favorites are Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner. Enjoy!

Vince Camuto Shoe Design Contest

Today I entered a couple of my shoe designs to the Vince Camuto shoe design competition. Here are two of them that I submitted. I might try to think of a few more before the deadline (April 15th). From April 16th - May 15th the public can vote for the designs. I'm pretty excited about this...we'll see what happens!
