Last year I received my first coach bag from my husband: the Madison Sophia Satchel. I got it from Printemps in Paris. I was so happy to find out that there was a Coach store in Paris right by me! I fell in love with this purse and wore it with absolutely anything.

This year for Christmas I came back to the United States and Santa Clause surprised me with my second coach purse! This purse is truly a work of art and I love it already. I'm already thinking of my next purchase which would have to be the Madison Leather Lindsey Satchel.

I definitely recommend Coach to any first-buyers. It's a great investment, will never go out of style and will last forever!

They are a beautiful French lingerie studio located in Paris. I was really inspired by the Marie Antoinette, boudoir look of the lingerie.

United Nations Calendar

I was asked to collaborate with other illustrators from Colagene to the United Nations calendar. This time, 12 illustrators worked to illustrate the 12 months of 2012. This year's subject is about combating the effects on climate change and biodiversity.

The calendar will be given out to delegates at the big UN convention in Durban and the illustrations will also be part of an exhibition in South Africa.

Here is my latest illustration for Company Magazine's December 2011 issue. Once again, I feel so lucky to have had the chance to work with them as their projects are always so much fun to do. The article was basically about not to get depressed during the holidays when you get on Facebook and see that everyone is getting engaged.

I love Vera Wang wedding dresses. The design, cut, shape, material...everything is perfect. I really wanted to try doing a fashion illustration based on one of her designs. I wanted to keep the final illustration loose just like the sketch and not too over-finished. It was fun and different to try!

Pere Lachaise is a beautiful cemetery in Paris. Many famous people are buried there including Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and Edith Piaf. It's starting to become one of my favorite places to take a walk. And it's beautiful around this time of the year when the leaves are falling...Here are a couple pictures of Oscar Wilde's grave.

I recently did an illustration for Metropolitan (Eurostar) Magazine's July 2011 issue for the article "Paris frais / Cool Paris"

The article was basically about how to stay cool during the hot summer months in Paris. I had to illustrate the map of Paris and focus on the areas they talked about in the article. It was quite challenging since Paris is so big..so many streets and different monuments. It was a challenge to keep everything harmonious...but I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

It also helped a lot that I live in Paris so I had a good sense of where everything is at ;)

With the month of august fast approaching there hasn't been much work lately. I think this is especially since I'm working in Europe. But, I've had a lot of free time to experiment with different techniques. Here is another ink piece I just did to go along with my previous post. I'm trying to keep the same spirit as my other work. I was really inspired by Laduree (French macaroon makers) for this illustration. Their colors and overall design of their packaging and shops is truly inspiring. I'd love to do work for them one day. I know they are normally classic and cute but I thought this would be a fun interpretation for their product. I think I'm sticking with the top illustration although I played with the second composition as well. Below is one poster I was inspired by.

Last week, my agency Colagene put on an expo (Get your Illustration Fix) in order to promote the new guide of the clinique. Each Illustrator produced a special illustration for the event which was put in the guide and also made into a limited edition silkscreen.

It was a really great night. A lot of people showed up from magazines and other agencies to see the show. Music, food, drinks and a live painting commenced throughout the night. I think it was really great exposure for the agency. I'm so happy to be a part of team Colagene!

I was inspired by these last two images I found for the style of the guy in my illustration. I love the pops of bright color. This also inspired me to make my illustration more graphic than I normally do. I also played around with some hand-drawn type.

Back in October I signed with the illustration agency, Colagene. Ever since the beginning of my senior year at CCS I had been looking at this agency. There are so many talented artists in the group. Long story short..I'm so honored to be a part of this group of illustrators. My agents have been so great to me. It's just been a really wonderful experience so far and I can't wait for future projects with them.

In February there was the expo and launch of the new guide for the agency. I've posted photos below of the artwork and the event. There will be another launch for Paris on March 10th from 6-10 pm. For anyone in Paris please come and check it out!

Brief francaise: Pour la sortie officielle de la troisième édition de son guide, Colagene organise cet évènement ouvert à tous. Le nouveau guide y sera présenté, une nouvelle fois, comme l’outil de référence pour les directeurs artistiques, designers et autres professionnels créatifs ayant recours aux services qu’offre Colagene, à savoir l'illustration, le motion design, le rough et storyboard.

Le Guide présente le travail de l’ensemble des artistes représentés par l’agence. Pour sa réalisation, chaque artiste a produit une illustration originale sur le concept Get your illustration fix. Plus d'une quinzaine d’entre elles ont été sélectionnées et déclinées en sérigraphies qui seront exposées et mises en vente le soir de l’évènement. Les sérigraphies seront tirées chacune à 5 exemplaires et seront exposées durant les 2 jours suivant l’évènement à la Galerie. Les motion designers ont, quant à eux, chacun, réalisés une animation originale qui sera projetée lors de la soirée.

Brief English: For the official release of the third edition of its guide, Colagene organizes this event open to all. The new guide will be presented, once again, as a reference tool for art directors, designers and other creative professionals who use the services offered by Colagene, namely the illustration, motion design, and the rough storyboard .

The guide presents the work of all artists represented by the agency. For its realization, each artist has produced an original illustration of the concept Get your Illustration fix. More than a dozen of them were selected and broken down into screenprints will be exhibited and offered for sale the night of the event. These series will be drawn each 5 copies and will be exhibited during the two days following the event at the Gallery. The motion designers, meanwhile, each made an original animation that will be projected during the evening.

It should be a really fun night. I can't wait to see the outcome of the event. I hope to see you there!

I just got back from Chicago last week. My dad and I stayed there for 3 days. It was a lot of fun! We did the usual touristy things: had Gino's deep dish pizza, went to the shedd aquarium, walked the Magnificent Mile (which now has a ZARA!) and enjoyed Millennium park!

The real purpose of my visit though was to get my Visa for France....and it just came in the mail the other day!

It's been four long years. Lots of memories. Lots of hard work. Graduation and the student exhibition opening night were two great days to say my final "see you later's" to people. I'm moving to Paris on July 1st and am very excited for what the future holds. Very excited to start my life with my boyfriend whom I met at CCS 4 years ago. But, there will always be a special place in my heart for a few of my closest friends and mentors from CCS.

(The above picture is of my great teachers: Casey Wise (my perspective teacher), Erik Olson (my figure/painting teacher), Don Kilpatrick (my Senior Studio/ Independent study teacher) and Gil Ashby (head of the Illustration department). All really great guys who have taught me a lot!

But, a special thank you goes out to my mom and dad who have supported me every step of the way. Without them this wouldn't have been possible.

Goodbye Detroit.

It's been fun while it's lasted...but I'm seriously ready to move on.

My Design Internship

I decided to post some things that I worked on while at my internship with Terrance Sullivan from September 2009 to January 2010. I was the only illustrator/designer that worked with him at the time, so I did all of the drawings from September till January. It was a good experience for me to practice drawing clothing in a different and simplified way. My first project was to draw the collection that was already in existence. From left to right you can see how I interpreted the jeans into the style I used.

I also sketched and colored for the new collection and also worked on some of my own ideas in the process

Along with this, I illustrated the details of every pair of jeans.

Here are a couple of my own designs that I worked on at the time. It was really interesting for me to imagine a piece of clothing and how it looked from every angle of the body.

I think I'll wait till next time to show some of my favorite sketches.

Lady of the House of Love

This was a piece that I actually did a few months ago but just never got around to posting it. It was for one of my studio classes at CCS. We had to illustrate something for a children's book. This ended up not really being for children. It's an illustrator for Angela Carter's "Lady of the House of Love". It's kind of a dark spin off of Sleeping Beauty. Angela Carter is a great author - I would recommend checking out her work sometime!

Since it has been displayed at the Detroit Public Library it has sold 4 times!

It's funny how things work out like that since this was never a favorite piece of mine.

I've been busy busy busy! I just got all of my prints done for the student show that starts in a few weeks and I've also began to frame most of them....so here is a sneak peak of what I have. I'm super excited about my senior wall. The frames and printing ended up being kind of expensive...but I think it will be well worth it in the end!

Other than that, this is my last week of classes!! I only have Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday then I'm done with college forever! There are lots of little things to do and get ready for but I'm just happy for classes to be done with.

Question:

I was thinking of setting up an etsy account once I'm settled in France in July. How many people out there would be interested in buying prints of my work? :)

The days of my college career are slowly dwindling down...4 more days of class next week. Then I have my senior exit review and I have to set up for my senior wall. Graduation...then the opening night of the show...Then going to Chicago to get my Visa. It's going to be pretty busy these next few weeks! But, I can't wait to be done with school and move on with my life and career!

This is my most recent piece. (And also part of my new blog header!) I took reference photos of my friend, Molly again. I really just took my time on this one and wasn't worrying about any deadlines which made this piece a lot of fun to work on. I wanted to keep it a simple portrait. Overall, I'm really happy how it turned out. I think because I didn't rush or worry myself too much about this one - it turned out to be one of my best pieces this year. I hope you all enjoy it!

I asked them for permission to use their images to illustrate. After illustrating them I designed the layout of the spread. This was really a challenge. I give a lot of credit to graphic designers. I don't know what was more of a challenge...the illustrations or the typography! Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out, being my first time doing this. Here are some close up images of the 2 pages.

As for other exciting news: I was featured on Spraygraphic's blog: Sprayblog.

It's a blog/website about all different types of artists out there.

Some Spontaneity

I was so bored of doing the same illustrations I've been doing for my portfolio. I've been so caught up in making a cohesive portfolio that I haven't had time to experiment and just have fun. Last night I did this drawing based off of a photo I took of my friend, Molly. I've been wanting to use my brush pen for the longest time now. I'm glad I did!

Vince Camuto Shoe Design Contest

Today I entered a couple of my shoe designs to the Vince Camuto shoe design competition. Here are two of them that I submitted. I might try to think of a few more before the deadline (April 15th). From April 16th - May 15th the public can vote for the designs. I'm pretty excited about this...we'll see what happens!

Our new apartment in Paris!!! (plus info on my next illustration series)

Ok, so I promised everyone that I would post more pictures from my Paris trip. Here are some photos of our apartment in Paris. I feel like it is home already and I can't wait to move there in July! The apartment is still pretty bare but it's going to take some time...(and money!) to fill it up!

Next Illustration Series:

My next series is going to be lookbooks of my favorite bloggers out there. I'm going to be asking for high res images (300dpi) from some of the girls (or guys possibly?) out there. I'm also going to include in the illustration a short write up on how each blogger describes their personal style..

I was inspired by the "First Look" page in Elle magazine. I wanted to do something along these lines: Full figure with indications of what brand each article of clothing/accessories is.

I already have a few people in mind that I'm going to ask to be a part of this...but if you have any suggestions of who you think would be interesting to illustrate please let me know...even if it's you that wants to be a part of it!

Yves Saint Laurent exposition & 180 Magazine

So, I just got back from Paris and had an amazing time!
Here are some photos from the Yves Saint Laurent exposition that my boyfriend and I went to while I was there. The expo was held in the Petit Palais, a very beautiful building - it was great to see the inside! Overall, the show was really great. I only have these two pictures though since we weren't supposed to photograph anything :(

Also, I wanted to thank 180 magazine for doing a feature on my fashion blog series!

Everyone, meet Denni from CHICMUSE! I've been following her blog for a little while now and absolutely love it! She has great personal style which she captures through some amazing photography. Denni is a really sweet girl living in Paris at the moment. (lucky!) If you go on her blog, you'll also see that she's done some work as a model for American Apparel as well. Overall, I was really excited to do this illustration. I wanted to keep it simple with the color since the composition seemed pretty strong to me overall. I had a lot of fun with the striped shirt!

Here is an illustration I just did of Raez from Cheap Thrills. I just discovered her blog a couple weeks back and fell in love with it. She has the most amazing photos on her blog. (Colorful and very contrasty...my favorite!) She plays dress up a lot and also knows how to put on some bad ass makeup! Basically she's fearless...and shes only 16!

A couple weeks back I really had the itch to sketch out some shoes. I'm no designer but had a lot of fun illustrating my ideas. I wanted to go with something that had a bit of an edge and were exaggerated. I'm going to color a couple of these just for the fun of it and will post it later on.

So, my new addiction this week: Couturious, a stylist and virtual dress-up website. I was invited by Krystal of This Time Tomorrow to test out the site and make 10 outfits. You can find me under the stylists section.

This website is pretty addicting. It's a lot of fun to sit down and put together your own outfits. There are lots of different models and backgrounds to choose from as well. It's also a great way to connect with other stylists. If you want to try out the site, you'll need to sign up using your email to get an invite.

I did this banner a while back for a website. (It was rejected!!) But, I'm still really happy with how it turned out. Again, I wanted to do a collage-like illustration with lots going on. I did this with graphite, found textures and photoshop. Any thoughts?

CHAOS magazine!

A few months back around September or October I was asked to be interviewed for the first issue of CHAOS magazine. I just received the issue in the mail the other day and LOVE it! I definitely recommend you check out there website HERE. (You can preview the magazine on their site) The magazine, for being their first print issue, is beautifully done. I was also thrilled to see an interview with fashion illustrator, Sandra Suy as well. When I first started getting into fashion illustration I remember seeing her work and really admiring it. So, I'm very humbled to be in the same magazine as her! Sorry for the poor quality images but I was unable to scan those pages without cutting them out of the magazine.

Anyways, I'm very excited and humbled about this great opportunity to be featured in CHAOS. Thanks to the CHAOS team and everyone involved!!

So, it's official. I'm going to visit Kevin and our new apartment in Paris for spring break! I'm really excited to see him since I haven't since July. I'm also very excited to see our new apartment and to decorate together. I'm going from March 5 - March 14. I'll have to post pictures when I'm back!
