So, a little while ago I told you guys I was going to try and do my own magazine layout...from the illustrations to the design of the page and typography.
I chose 3 favorite bloggers/stylists of mine to participate and help me out with this.
Andy from style scrapbook
Gemma from fade to black
and
Denni from chicmuse
I asked them for permission to use their images to illustrate. After illustrating them I designed the layout of the spread. This was really a challenge. I give a lot of credit to graphic designers. I don't know what was more of a challenge...the illustrations or the typography! Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out, being my first time doing this. Here are some close up images of the 2 pages.
As for other exciting news: I was featured on Spraygraphic's blog: Sprayblog.
It's a blog/website about all different types of artists out there.
They did an interview and put up some images of my work. You can check it out HERE!!

fantastic work....awesome!
I love it!
Hi Nicole!
I love the illustrations, as always!
I think the magazine looks good, but the layout could be better aligned, and no widows (a single word at the end of a line in a paragraph). I love the font you used as the headers! Suits the illustrations well. I think it is really awesome for your first time! :)

Thanks so much for the advice Marie. I'm totally new to this - so there will be lots of tweeks needed!

WOW and WOW - you are super talented! I love this idea. Saw you on Fade To Black....
I'm kind of DYING Over how awesome this looks! I love your work!!! :)
The camera is a Nikon D40...sometimes we use a Canon EOS 5D though...but mostly the Nikon. I like it, and while most people who see it as like "that's a serious camera" which inevitably makes me half-laugh because it really isn't once you're used it/compared to the Canon, it's a great camera for your first SLR...the only thing is that sometimes i wish i had the D90 because my friend has it and it has more shutter speed options...more details essentially. sometimes when you want to get the in between speeds...you can't with the D40 cause it skips from say shutter 1/60 to 1/80....that's a big jump and sometimes, it would be great to have the in-between. My advice though is also try and get one for a deal with an additional lens. I got mine for like $400 two years ago with a Telescopic lens and it's great to have gotten that deal.
hope that helps!
